Amazing Grace

I know you all have likely seen the movie Ray about the life of Ray Charles. Good, right? Well the makers of that film have undertaken, yet another epic story, the film Amazing Grace, about the life of John Newton, writer of the hymn, Amazing Grace and William Willberforce, the British lawmaker who almost single-handedly ended the trade of African people across the Middle Passage.

It is promising to be a real tear-jerker showing how we are to apply our faith to fighting social ills of our day, rather than retreating to the safety and comfort of our pews. Also, it deals sensitively with the issues of race and treats the African plight with dignity, just in time for Black history month. One of the actors even portrays Olaudah Equiano, you should remember him from school.

It is going to be a great movie, with a real message for people today. Go see it tomorrow (opening weekend) and show Hollywood that movies don't have to be smut to be bestsellers.

I look forward to our discussions about the movie.
